The Boys & Girls Club of Burlington created the ONE Fashion Event five years ago, in hopes of getting their mission before a younger constituent base and providing kids with an opportunity to explore fashion design – the end result has been a resounding success. More than 30 kids began designing their clothing months prior to the upcoming event and with the help of community volunteers, their pieces came to life through donated materials and sewing machines and many hours of volunteers, staff and board member assistance.
In addition to this being a sellout and attracting new donors to the Club, this event showcases our youth in a manner that many other events do not provide. Their final walk down the runway invokes a standing ovation by the crowd and tears in many. The Boys and Girls Club will continue to build the ONE Fashion Event, as it is well on its way to becoming a marquee event in the community.
On Saturday, January 29, 2011 the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington will host the 5th Annual ONE Fashion Event, presented by City Market/Onion River Coop and KeyBank.
Additional sponsors include: Catamount Blue of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont, Paul Frank & Collins, Gadue’s Dry Cleaning, Automaster, Freedom Nissan and The Lodge at Otter Creek. Media sponsors are Star 92.9, Planet 96.7 and WCAX TV.
Featuring fashions from over 20 stores and local designers, the runway show will also feature clothing designed by Boys & Girls Club of Burlington members. The evening’s hosts are Lesli Blount of KeyBank and DJ Craig Mitchell. The evening will finish with a DJ and dance party. The goal is to raise $48,000 for children’s programs and services in 2011.
The event is held at the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and the runway show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 the day of the show available at Higher Ground Box office at 1-800-512-SHOW or www.highergroundmusic.com. All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington.
