The Clothes Exchange
May 18 & 19
Sheraton, Burlington

Gadue's is proud to support the 10th Annual Clothes Exchange which will take place on May 18th and 19th at the Sheraton in Burlington.  Shoppers can expect deep discounts on gently used and new apparel donated by more than two dozen local retailers and national brands!

Due to the popularity of the event, three big changes were made for this year’s event: it will take place over two days and be held at its largest venue yet -- the Sheraton, which can accommodate the anticipated 1,000 shoppers.  “Shop First” will take place on May 18, from 6pm-9pm.  “Shop First” shoppers will enjoy a personal shopper, wine and hors d’oeuvres, and a first pass at the apparel on sale.  Tickets are $110 and sales are limited.  The “Main Event” will take place on May 19 from 5pm-9pm.  Tickets are $10.
You can purchase tickets by clicking on the link below.
Do you want to know who you’re helping when you shop at The Clothes Exchange? This is just one story from a Spectrum Youth and Family Services client.

Jessica's Story
A year ago Jessica was 17, homeless, and struggling through rehab.  Like many of the youth we serve, Jessica’s life was out of control when we first met her. She lived in our emergency shelter and then moved on to our transitional living residence, the SRO (Single Room Occupancy), where she stayed for a year.
With the help of Spectrum staff she held a steady job, saved money, and attended school.  Slowly but surely, she began to put the pieces of her life in order.  At a recent forum, a Vermont state legislator asked Jessica, “If you could turn the clock back five or ten years, what choices would you make differently so that you are not in the situation of homelessness you are in now?” Jessica’s answer left me speechless.  “Ten years ago I was eight, and I lived in a crack house. My mother was a crackaddict. My father was a crack addict. Eventually I became a crack addict. About a year ago my life was so out of control that I went into rehab. After 28 days I wasscheduled to leave, and someone told me about Spectrum. I came here and living here has made all the difference for me. I have a life now – a drug free, productive life.”
In just a few sentences Jessica summed up the chaos that so many of our youth grow up around. Common factors are poverty, unemployment, violence, drugs, childhood neglect and abuse. It takes incredible resilience to transcend that, and then create a life of meaning and happiness.
This year, Jessica was chosen by her classmates to speak at their high school graduation ceremony. I was there. It was amazing – the same young woman who had hit rock bottom at age 17 was now a role model for her peers. She overcame obstacles that most adults will never have to face.  Yet she could not have done it alone.
It was our community’s support that enabled Jessica to beat incredible odds.  Without this generosity, Spectrum would not have been able to provide youth like Jessica with a safe space and a second chance. Without Spectrum, Jessica would not be where she is today – healthy, happy, and productive.
Since its inception in 2001, The Clothes Exchange has raised $210,000 for area nonprofits.  This year, 50% of proceeds will go to Spectrum Youth & Family Services; the remaining 50% will go to nine other nonprofits that The Clothes Exchange has supported over the years.
